Today’s news indicates that a military attack on Iran may be imminent. Apparently, both the Israel and U.S. militaries are not too otherwise occupied at the moment, so give them the order and let’s go! Here’s the reporting by Reuters:
• U.S. President Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened Iran with bombing if it does not reach a new nuclear deal.
• Trump told the "Pod Force One" podcast on June 9: “I’m less confident now than I would have been a couple of months ago. Something happened to [the Iranians], but I am much less confident of a deal being made.” “But it would be nicer to do it without warfare, without people dying, it’s so much nicer to do it. But I don’t think I see the same level of enthusiasm for them to make a deal."
• Iranian Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh said during a weekly press briefing: “Some officials on the other side threaten conflict if negotiations don't come to fruition. If a conflict is imposed on us ... all U.S. bases are within our reach and we will boldly target them in host countries."
• The United States has a military presence in Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates. U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has authorized the voluntary departure of military dependents from locations across the Middle East. "The State Department is set to have an ordered departure for (the) U.S. embassy in Baghdad.”
The 6th round of U.S.-Iran talks is now said to be scheduled for Sunday, June 15, at which Iran is expected to hand a counterproposal to a previous U.S. offer for a nuclear deal it rejected. Russia, along with Saudi Arabia and UAE, does not want a war in the Middle East. On June 11, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that efforts to reach a solution should be redoubled and that Moscow was willing to help in practical ways. "We are ready to provide assistance to both Washington and Tehran.”
What will Steve Witkoff do? And then, what will Donald Trump do? Those questions are where things stand today.
And another, will IAEA be given advance notice sufficient for IAEA inspectors in Iran to get to safe locations?
