Don
Martin diary entry for Tuesday, May 21, 1918:
Just “hung around” hotel and the office. Too hot to do much of
anything. Wrote a 350 word cable on Suftercy’s death. Knew him slightly. It
certainly seems as if our airmen are going fast.
Air raid alarm given at 10:30. Terrific
barrage for an hour. I stood in front of the hotel and saw shrapnel bursting
all over the sky but nothing else. No planes get into the city. Also, early in
day, posed for photographs to send to Dorothy. Sent a cable to Dorothy.
