May 1, 1918 - Day trip to the quiet fronts

Don Martin diary entry for Wednesday, May 1, 1918:
Out with [Bert] Ford [International News Service] again. Had luncheon in Nancy. Then went to Boucq. Fronts very quiet. Got back to Neufchateau to find [Mel] Draper [New York Tribune] and some of the other 1st division men back to cover this front. Spent the evening at the club. Visited with [Lincoln] Eyre of the [New York] World. He says the French, by wonderful fighting, prevented a German victory in Picardy after the 5th British army had gone back.

First decent day in a long time.
