Don
Martin diary entry for Wednesday, May 15, 1918:
Got up at 9 and went to the American Consul’s office to get my
passports renewed. Was detained there 2 hours. Met [Burn] Price [Paris Herald manager] in afternoon; went
with him back to Consul’s where I got my passports extended till July 2.
Everyone talking about Bennett death. Herald devoted front page to it. No doubt
his death removed a great and picturesque figure. Had dinner at the Chatham.
Air raid alarm at 10. I was in my room reading. Remained there. Raid didn’t
amount to much.
Little activity on Picardy front but big
attack soon to come.
