Don Martin diary entry for Thursday, January 3, 1918:
Took Baird away from his work in the Fleet St office and had him pilot me up to House of Parliament, Westminster Abbey and by the Royal Palace. He is certainly an awful bore. Had dinner at Savoy. Champion telephoned me at 7 and said warning had been given. Waited in vain for developments. Later the “all clear” signal was given. No raid. Because of tightness of censorship, could learn nothing as to cause of warning. Sat down in the restaurant till 12:20 a.m. Then went to bed. Wrote nothing today.

It is rather surprising to see how general is cigarette smoking among women. They smoke in hotel lobbies the same as men.
Weather good for London. No sunshine
