Don Martin diary entry for Thursday, January 10, 1918:
Went to the office at noon and dictated three
stories to Baird. Saw the Admiralty spokesman. He says German submarines are
now more successful in bad weather than good. 18 ships sunk this week. That’s
bad. It is very evident that the submarine menace is getting worse.

Had dinner at Simpson’s again. In afternoon walked down to 64 Mark
Lane and called on Mr. Cilly, Barbiano agent in London.
English papers pleased with all of Wilson’s speech except part
about Freedom of the Seas.
Weather clear, mild and sun shining!
