Don Martin diary entry for Saturday,
February 23, 1918:
Spent the
afternoon at the office doing nothing much. Came up to the hotel at 4 and spent
a couple hours in my room reading. Went to the office in the evening but did
nothing but sit around. Rather looked for an air raid but clouds obscured the
moon. Sat up in [Ben] Russell’s room till about midnight.
Russia now the big point of interest. The
Bolsheviks threaten to oppose the Germans next but they can do nothing. The big
German drive on the French front has not started.
Weather pleasant.
