Don Martin diary entry for Saturday, April 20, 1918:
Storm troops make attack on New England troops.
Went to Baccarat with Gregg – a long ride. [Baccarat is northeast of Epinal.] Got no news but on return to Neufchateau found Germans had made a strong attack with C2 or storm troops on two companies 26 (New England division) [at Seicheprey]. Called about 500 words to N.Y. Sent same to Paris. Censors cut out nearly everything worthwhile in both dispatches. Won’t pass anything praising Americans for fear it will offend French. It is very annoying. I think I told Lieut. Conger one of censors almost what I think of him. Had dinner at club with all the reporters. All are sore on the censors.

Weather clear but cold.
