Don Martin diary entry for Thursday,
June 20, 1918:
Left Paris at 8:30
a.m. with Martin Green [New York Evening World] and [Edwin] James [New York Times]. Rode eight hours to Neufchateau. On the way I
cut my finger on a brass shell. Seems as if there must be something wrong with
me. Had dinner at the Lafayette Club in Neufchateau. Spent the evening with
Green at the club. He is sick. So is James. Looks as if we need a hearse
instead of an automobile.
